Johnny’s malerier er portrætter eller figurer. Ikke i traditionel forstand men i en slags grundform. Der er ikke tale om portrætter af nogle bestemte mennesker, men et ønske om at skildre det menneskelige. En nysgerrighed og søgen efter den indre originalitet.
For Johnny handler det om eksistens og virkelighed.
Johnnys malerier er i bedste forstand ekspressive malerier. Han arbejder konsekvent dybt intuitivt med et stædigt ønske om at være så sandfærdig i sin skildring af det menneskelige som muligt. ”Det er vigtigt for mig, at det ikke er for perfekt. Hvis mine strøg bliver for pæne, er det ikke rigtigt”, siger Johnny.
Sansningen i arbejdsprocessen er for Johnny en meget omfattende registrering af virkeligheden. Det kræver fokusering og disciplin.
Johnnys karakteristiske farveholdninger og figurative kompositioner har fundet sin balance og rammer derfor betragteren præcist, direkte og stærkt.
Malerierne opfordrer og udfordrer.
